A Place Where Tradition and the Present Meet
Born on the island of Shodoshima, the setting of the film “Twenty-Four Eyes,” Haikara-ya connects the past and present, much like the beloved protagonist known as “The Haikara Teacher.” Visitors can experience capturing special moments of their lives that will last forever, feeling the timeless bonds and beauty. For instance, the “Kokuhaku-Shiki” transforms hidden emotions into images or film, and “Lamp Hope” preserves cherished mementos, ensuring they light the way to the future. Every experience at Haikara-ya weaves visitors’ special moments into the fabric of the future.
Photography and film have the power to turn everyday moments into art
They reveal the beauty, joy, and emotions embedded in everyday life, preserving them for eternity. With this belief, we put our hearts into each and every shoot, aiming to be a partner in weaving unforgettable stories into the future.
“A picture is a poem without words.” – Horace
As this quote suggests, our photographs and films capture emotions and stories that words cannot convey. We aim to merge the latest technology with a unique perspective to bring out the individuality of our subjects and the atmosphere of the moment.
We chose Shodoshima Movie Village as our shooting location due to its unique scenery and historical background. As a film set, this location holds a special atmosphere where the past and present intersect, adding depth to our work.
“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.”
– Dorothea Lange
Our goal is not just to record moments, but to create works that evoke emotion. Throughout the shooting process, we value the vision of the subject, and take joy in creating something together. By using natural light and unique locations, we craft a one-of-a-kind image that captures that special moment.
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
– Aaron Siskind
No matter how far technology evolves, our creativity and sensitivity remain essential. Through photography and film, we continue to express these emotions, creating works that stay in the hearts of those who view them. We believe in the infinite possibilities of photography and film, and we continue to take on new challenges.
We turn to art so that we are not overwhelmed by the truth. Art may be a lie that allows us to realize the truth. But photography illuminates the heart. No matter how much we dress up the surface, the truth shines through. What we capture in our photographs is not art, but the truth that dwells in the moment. Let us search for that truth together.
“In every fleeting moment, there lies a truth waiting to be unveiled. A photograph captures that truth, holding time just long enough to reveal the essence of life, transforming the ephemeral into the eternal.”
